A coffee table as a form study in materiality and transparency: Thibault Van Hoorebeke’s sculpture is a coffee table, bar, and library all at once. Even when empty, the object has its allure. It spontaneously reminds the viewer of a scale model of a modernist pavilion à la Mies van der Rohe. Regarding size, the openwork coffee table follows Le Corbusier’s Modulor proportions; regarding furnishing, Van Hoorebeke ended up using marble and travertine. For Van Den Weghe Items the London-based interior architect also designed a desk unit that turned into your typical architect’s piece: horizontal and vertical bars, and one type of marble, sometimes sandblasted, sometimes polished..
